Course Details
Our 6 week Intermediate Dog Training Class is ideal for dogs who have a basic understanding of commands. Suitable for dogs over 6 months, this course helps refine existing skills, improve focus, and build reliability in everyday situations.
Your course starts with a live online session followed by fun, practical in-person classes. This step-by-step approach ensures you and your dog have a solid foundation for learning and success!
Step 1: Live Online Session (Before We Meet in Person)
Get ready for training with expert guidance on:
✅ Dog Development & Behaviour – How age, environment, and experiences shape behaviour.
✅ Assess Your Home Environment – Discuss how we can create a safe, confidence-boosting environment.
✅ Socialisation Done Right – Not all socialisation is beneficial. We’ll discuss how to expose your dog to experiences safely and positively.
✅ Legal Responsibilities – Many owners are unaware of UK dog laws. We’ll cover some basics.
✅ Choosing Training Tools – Are you using appropriate leads, harnesses, and treats for your dog’s needs?
✅ Reading Canine Body Language – Many problem behaviours stem from missed communication
Step 2: In-Person Classes
Build real-life skills and confidence with hands-on training, including:
✅ Reinforce Essential Cues & Build Reliability – Strengthen your dog’s ability to respond quickly and consistently to key skills like stay and recall.
✅ Loose-Lead Walking & Handling Focus Around Distractions – Teach your dog to walk calmly by your side, even in exciting environments.
✅ Recall Training – Learn why your dog may ignore recall cues and how to make coming back more rewarding.
✅ Polite Greetings & Socialisation - Practice greetings and reading body language.
✅ Building Confidence Through Play – Fun activities to improve social skills and strengthen your bond.
Our Improver classes are suitable for dogs from 6 months old. Each class is 45 minutes long with a maximum of 6 owners.
Classes are held indoors, with an outdoor area for play and toileting. The Riverside Community Centre has free parking.
Additional Support
A Private, Dedicated WhatsApp Group - A safe space for doggy parents to ask questions, share progress, and get support between sessions.
Weekly Recaps - A short email summary of what was covered, including key takeaways and reminders.
Short Video Demos - Quick videos showing how to reinforce key commands at home.
Recommendations - Tips on where to find areas to walk, online and local community groups, and local services.
What You'll Need
✅ Treats – Bring plenty! We recommend using a treat pouch rather than a plastic bag or your pockets.
✅ 6 foot lead – it should not be a slip lead, extendable or elastic.
✅ Flat collar or harness – whichever you prefer.
✅ Poop bags – we have disposal bins.
